With just a week to go until UEFA EURO 2012 commences, we conclude our seven-part documentary series, The Coaches.

In the last edition, UEFA.com speaks to a host of heralded coaches including UEFA Champions League-winning Roberto Di Matteo, England manager Roy Hodgson and Real Madrid CF's José Mourinho. This week focuses on the make-up of a top coach and the factors that affect their rise to the top. For example, how can a coach from one generation deal with players from those that come after.

Arsenal FC's long-serving Arsène Wenger explains: "To understand how the world around us evolves can help; how do we have to adapt, to improve our behaviour, and how we can stay at the top of our job is by responding well to these new demands."

Equally important to a coach's development is those who impressed upon them during their ascent to the professional game. Hodgson said: "Talking about the iconic coaches of my youth, the people that I mixed with; a small band of young, very interested football coaches. Then it would be David Sexton, Don Howe and Bobby Robson. But probably the biggest influence was the group; Bob Houghton in particular who I spent so much time with and he was the one that led me into coaching."
