Crespo makes Milan move

Italian champions AC Milan have signed Argentina striker Hernán Crespo on a season's loan from Chelsea FC.

Inter old boy
The 29-year-old, who flew into Linate airport late last night before undergoing a medical and agreeing a contract this morning, returns to Italy after just one year in the English Premiership, having joined Chelsea last summer from Milan's city rivals FC Internazionale for a reported fee of €24.25m.

Competition for places
At Milan, Crespo will be reunited with Carlo Ancelotti, his former coach at AC Parma. "He will not unbalance the dressing room," said Ancelotti. "Hernán is an intelligent guy and very determined." Crespo will compete with Andriy Shevchenko, Filippo Inzaghi and Jon Dahl Tomasson for a place in the Rossoneri attack. "His arrival will increase the competition for places up front, but I don't think it's a bad thing. We are talking about a great forward," Ancelotti added.

Goals galore
The striker joined Parma in 1996 from CA River Plate after winning the Copa Libertadores with the Argentinian side. He scored 61 goals in four seasons at the Tardini stadium where he won the UEFA Cup, the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup. He then joined S.S. Lazio for a then world record fee of €60m and was the Serie A top scorer in his first season at the Olimpico stadium with 26 goals. In 2002 he joined Inter and scored seven goals in Serie A and nine in the UEFA Champions League.

Drogba option
Crespo moved to Chelsea last August but never really settled in the Premiership despite scoring ten goals in 19 appearances. Earlier this week Chelsea coach José Mourinho said the Argentinian player could decide his future. "It's up to him. I don't want players who aren't 100 per cent ready to stay," Mourinho said. Chelsea have Eidur Gudjohnsson, Adrian Mutu and new signing Mateja Kezman in attack and are reportedly trying to sign Didier Drogba from Olympique de Marseille.
