Chelsea held in check, Madrid win Clásico

Chelsea FC's momentum was interrupted in dramatic circumstances at Old Trafford on a weekend when Real Madrid CF ended FC Barcelona's unbeaten start.

The top clubs in some of Europe's most prestigious leagues had their momentum checked this weekend, with Premier League juggernauts Chelsea FC conceding a last-gasp leveller in a 1-1 draw at Manchester United FC. Bundesliga leaders FC Bayern München also had to content themselves with a point, which was one more than Liga frontrunners FC Barcelona were able to claim in their 3-1 Clásico loss at Real Madrid CF.

• Mario Mandžukić struck on 40 minutes to help Club Atlético de Madrid triumph 1-0 at ten-man Getafe CF. 
Juventus climbed three points clear of AS Roma in Serie A thanks to a 2-0 defeat of US Città di Palermo.
• Swedish leaders Malmö FF host bottom side IF Brommapojkarna on Monday.
• Tassos Avlonitis was the hero for Olympiacos FC as the Greek champions edged Panathinaikos FC 1-0.

Real Madrid won El Clásico 3-1 against Barcelona, Cristiano Ronaldo hitting his 16th goal in eight Liga games.
• Giovanni Sio buried the equaliser for FC Basel 1893 in a 1-1 draw against FC Sion.
Liverpool FC could manage no more than a goalless stalemate at home to Hull City.
• PFC Ludogorets Razgrad remain within seven points of Bulgarian leaders PFC CSKA Sofia following a 2-0 win against PFC Cherno More Varna.

AS Monaco FC clinched a second consecutive Ligue 1 win, prevailing 3-1 at SC Bastia.
• Russian Premier League leaders FC Zenit engineered a 5-0 victory against FC Mordovia Saransk.
Bayer 04 Leverkusen downed FC Schalke 04 1-0 but lost Stefan Reinartz to an eye injury.
SL Benfica surrendered an early lead and their unbeaten Liga record in a 2-1 reverse at SC Braga.

Borussia Dortmund now lie a point above the Bundesliga relegation zone following their 1-0 home loss to Hannover 96.
• Alexis Sánchez scored either side of the break to propel Arsenal FC to a 2-0 success at Sunderland AFC.
Galatasaray AŞ slipped from the Turkish summit as they went down 4-0 at İstanbul BB SK. 
RSC Anderlecht's lead in Belgium has been trimmed to two points after they succumbed 2-0 at home to R. Standard de Liège.

Bayern remain four points clear in Germany thanks to a 0-0 stalemate at second-placed VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach.
• There were no goals in Genoa either as AS Roma fell three points off the pace in Italy with a draw at UC Sampdoria.
Manchester City FC dropped to third in England in the wake of a 2-1 defeat at West Ham United FC.
PFC CSKA Moskva required an added-time spot kick from Bebras Natcho to draw 3-3 at FK Ufa.

Paris Saint-Germain had Gregory van der Wiel sent off but dispatched ten-man FC Girondins de Bordeaux 3-0.
Barcelona were joined on 22 points by Sevilla FC after their unbeaten start was ended by closest pursuers Real Madrid.
• In the Netherlands, AFC Ajax kept up the pressure on pacesetters PSV Eindhoven by seeing off Go Ahead Eagles 3-1.
• Contesting their first league game in almost three weeks, APOEL FC prevailed 1-0 at home to Nea Salamis Famagusta FC.

Chelsea looked set to build a six-point lead in England before Robin van Persie's last-gasp effort earned Manchester United a 1-1 draw.
FC Schalke 04 slipped to 12th in the Bundesliga following their 1-0 loss at Leverkusen.
NK Maribor remain six points shy of Slovenian frontrunners NK Domžale despite beating NK Zavrč 1-0.
• Four different players registered for Sporting Clube de Portugal in a 4-2 success against CS Marítimo.

FC Porto cruised to a 5-0 win at FC Arouca, Jackson Martínez scoring twice to haul his side within a point of leaders Benfica.
• Belarusian top dogs FC BATE Borisov visit FC Torpedo Zhodino on Monday.
FC Shakhtar Donetsk welcome FC Poltava in the Ukrainian Cup on Monday holding a 5-1 first-leg cushion.
• Athletic Club picked up a first win in ten competitive matches as a second-half goal by Xabier Etxeita handed them a 1-0 victory against UD Almería.
