Jarni and Forlan among new names

Diego Forlan heads the list of new players eligible to play in the UEFA Champions League.

Robert Jarni, Diego Forlan and Christian Panucci head the list of new players eligible to play in the UEFA Champions League when the competition resumes in February.

Registration guidelines
Midnight on Thursday was the deadline for teams to register a maximum of three new signings or previously unregistered players for second group stage action. Players who have represented another club already in UEFA competition this season (bar the first three rounds of the UEFA Intertoto Cup) are not eligible for inclusion.

No new players for champions
Reigning champions FC Bayern München and Spanish side FC Barcelona have not registered any new players. However, Manchester United FC's new Uruguayan signing Diego Forlan is included, while another English side, Liverpool FC, have registered two new recruits - Milan Baroš and Abel Xavier.

Baia back
Goalkeeper Vítor Baia, Xavier's fellow Portuguese international, has been registered by FC Porto after returning to action after a long injury lay-off - he is one of three players that have boosted the 1. Liga club's squad. Croatian international Jarni was signed by Greek challengers Panathinaikos FC on Thursday and registered later that day. He will be eligible to play from Matchday Nine along with Minas Pitsos, who arrived in Athens from OFI Crete.

Sparta lose seven
AS Roma have registered one new player in Christian Panucci, a winner with Milan AC in 1994 and Madrid in 1998, while FC Nantes Atlantique, Galatasaray SK and AC Sparta Praha have all added three new players to their squads, the maximum number allowed. Sparta, however, also lose seven players due to extensive transfer dealing during the winter break.
