Fantasy Football Matchday 7 lessons: Midfielders

Key differentials were once again to the fore in the round of 16 first legs, although Serge Gnabry took the headlines again.

With so many highly-owned premium assets in the midfielder category, finding those players with low ownership can really help #UCLfantasy managers steal a march on their mini-league rivals.

There was more evidence of this on Matchday 7 as, of the eight midfield players to score nine #UCLfantasy points or more, just two – Bayern's Serge Gnabry (€8.2m) and Lyon's Lucas Tousart (€4.5m) – have an ownership percentage greater than 10%.

Furthermore, there were some ultra differentials bringing in the points with Atalanta pair Remo Freuler (€5.8m) and Mario Pašalić (€6.2m) being owned by less than 2% of all #UCLfantasy managers.

Ahead of the second legs, it is worth bearing in mind that the field will be whittled down to eight teams after Matchday 8. #UCLfantasy managers will be granted five free transfers prior to Matchday 9, but from a strategic point of view it is certainly worth opting for midfielders who look like they have a good chance of progressing to the quarter-finals so that you're set up well going forward. Atalanta's Josip Iličić (€6.1m) and the aforementioned Gnabry – who both produced notable attacking returns on Matchday 7 – certainly fall into this bracket.
