UCL Fantasy Football: Goalkeepers

With only four teams still involved, UEFA.com considers which goalkeepers are the best options for Fantasy squads.

With just four teams now battling out for European supremacy, the choices are thinning when it comes to #UCLfantasy options but UEFA.com are on hand to sift through the remaining goalkeepers.

Highlights: Chelsea 0-1 Porto

Edouard Mendy (€5.5m) owners were left frustrated on Matchday 10 as a Chelsea clean sheet was looking all but secure until Mehdi Taremi’s stunning bicycle kick deep into stoppage time significantly reduced his Fantasy total. Be that as it may, no other goalkeeper has scored more #UCLfantasy points than Mendy's 51 and his seven competition clean sheets are unrivalled by his fellow shot-stoppers. As the most highly-selected goalkeeper amongst #UCLfantasy managers ahead of the semi-final against Real Madrid, it looks like a risk to go without him.

Manchester City conceded in both legs of their quarter-final tie with Dortmund and that may serve to put some #UCLfantasy managers off siding with Ederson (€6.0m) on Matchday 11 against Paris Saint-Germain, but it is worth pointing out that City, along with Chelsea, have shipped just three goals in the entirety of the tournament. How they handle the threats posed by Paris in the semi-finals will be key to their progression and at least one clean sheet is certainly not out of the question for Ederson.

Highlights: Paris 0-1 Bayern

Ederson's opposite number on Matchdays 11 and 12 will be Paris shot-stopper Keylor Navas (€5.8m) who, with 44 points, is the second highest scoring #UCLfantasy goalkeeper remaining in the competition. The fact that Navas sits above Ederson in that department is thanks in large part to the considerable number of saves the Costa Rican has made throughout the tournament, with his 48 goal preventions – one of those from a penalty – far outweighing those of his rival goalkeepers.

Thibaut Courtois (€6.0m) is undoubtedly the differential choice when it comes to the remaining goalkeepers with the Belgian featuring in just 9% of teams at present, and that is not hugely surprising given that he has the lowest #UCLfantasy total out of the remaining candidates. However, the Real Madrid No1 has kept clean sheets in three of his last five games in the competition and the Spanish side are easily the most experienced semi-finalist at navigating the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League. Those needing to make a goalkeeper transfer ahead of Matchday 11 should give careful consideration to Courtois.
