Ahead of the first legs of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, UEFA.com focuses on Karim Benzema, Erling Haaland, Rafael Leão and Lautaro Martínez, who each have a strong case to be captain on Matchday 11 of #UCLfantasy, presented by Playstation.
TUESDAY 9 MAY
Karim Benzema (€10.9m) vs Manchester City (H)
With Real Madrid at home on Matchday 11, many Fantasy managers will be considering Benzema for the captaincy, and there are plenty of reasons why that could prove a smart decision. The Frenchman has scored ten goals in his last eight games in all competitions, with three hat-tricks. Real Madrid's semi-final opponents Manchester City are familiar foes with the two sides having also met in the semi-finals last season. Benzema was directly involved in four goals across those two games, and has found the net in his last three appearances against the Premier League side.
Erling Haaland (€11.2m) vs Real Madrid (A)
With close to two-thirds of all Fantasy managers owning Haaland, there is little doubt who the most popular captain choice will be on Matchday 11. The Manchester City striker continues to score goals at a remarkable rate having hit his 50th of the campaign in all competitions on 30 April, and is the top scorer in the UEFA Champions League this season with 12 goals. With seven goals in his last three UEFA Champions League games, it is difficult to look past the Norwegian for the armband.
WEDNESDAY 10 MAY
Rafael Leão (€8.5m) vs Inter (H)
No Milan player has scored more Fantasy points than Leão this season, and only Haaland has scored more points among forwards. The Portuguese international set up both of Milan's goals in the quarter-final win against Napoli, also winning a penalty and earning the Player of the Match award in the second leg. He has continued in the same vein in Serie A recently, scoring twice against Lecce and providing the assist for a vital late equaliser against Roma, so form is very much on his side as Milan prepare to face city rivals Inter. Leão is comfortably the third highest-owned forward in Fantasy, and is likely to be the leading captaincy choice on Wednesday.
Lautaro Martínez (€8.5m) vs Milan (A)
Inter's Martínez has a stellar record against Milan and is also enjoying a strong spell of form. The Argentinian found the net in both Serie A victories against Milan this season and has six goals in his last eight derby appearances. At the time of writing, Martínez has four goals in his last four appearances in all competitions, including his strike against Benfica on Matchday 10. That contributed towards a 12-point return – the highest among forwards in the quarter-final second legs.
