Record vs English clubs: W11 D11 L18 F37 A49
Home record vs English clubs: W7 D7 L6

PSV were paired with Arsenal in last season's group stage, losing 4-0 in London on Matchday 1 before a 1-1 draw in Eindhoven on Matchday 6.

A 2-0 home win against Arsenal on Matchday 5 of the 2022/23 UEFA Europa League group stage is PSV's only victory in their last nine games against English clubs (D4 L4) and one of only four in the last 26 (D9 L13).

However, a 1-2 defeat by Leicester in the 2021/22 UEFA Europa Conference League quarter-final second leg (1-2 aggregate) is PSV's only reverse in five home games against Premier League visitors (W2 D2).

This is PSV's 18th appearance in the Champions League proper – level with Ajax's Dutch record – and a second in succession.

The Eindhoven club returned to the group stage last season for the first time since 2018/19, finishing second behind Arsenal in Group B before losing to eventual finalists Borussia Dortmund in the round of 16 (1-1 h, 0-2 a).

That was PSV's first knockout appearance since 2015/16, and just the fifth time they had progressed beyond the initial Champions League group stage.

A 1-0 home victory against Lens on Matchday 4 last season ended PSV's 15-game run without a win (D6 L9) in the group stage, since a 2-1 defeat of CSKA Moskva on Matchday 6 in 2015/16.

The victories against Lens last season and Girona (4-0) and Shakhtar Donetsk (3-2) this, the latter in a game they trailed 0-2 until the 87th minute, are PSV's only successes in 14 Champions League home matches (D7 L4) since that defeat of CSKA.

Having finished second in the Eredivisie for three successive seasons, in 2023/24 PSV claimed their first league title since 2017/18. Peter Bosz's side won 29 of their 34 league games, losing only one, their final tally of 91 points eclipsing Ajax's record of 89 set in 1997/98.

Away record vs Dutch clubs: W5 D3 L1

Liverpool's last games against Eredivisie opponents came in the 2022/23 Champions League group stage, when they beat Ajax 2-1 at home and 3-0 away.

That made it four successive wins against teams from Netherlands, with Ajax's goal at Anfield the only one Liverpool have conceded in their last six games (W4 D2).

Two 0-0 draws against Utrecht in the 2010/11 UEFA Europa League group stage are the only matches in Liverpool's last 11 games against Dutch teams they have not won, and two of three in the last 15 (D3).

The Reds are unbeaten against Dutch clubs since losing 5-1 at Ajax in their first fixture, in the 1966/67 European Cup second round first leg (3-7 aggregate).

The Merseyside club have kept clean sheets in six of their last seven games in Netherlands, conceding one goal and winning five of those seven matches.

This is Liverpool's 16th Champions League campaign; they have reached the final five times, lifting the trophy in 2005 and 2019.

They last featured in 2022/23, finishing second in their section behind Napoli before elimination by Real Madrid in the round of 16.

Liverpool have won 16 of their last 21 away Champions League matches (D1 L4) including 11 of the last 13; they have been victorious at AC Milan (3-1), Leipzig and Girona (both 1-0) this season.

Jürgen Klopp's team took part in the Europa League in 2023/24, finishing first in their section before overwhelming Sparta Praha in the round of 16 (5-1 a, 6-1 h) but came up short against eventual winners Atalanta in the last eight (0-3 h, 1-0 a).

Liverpool were third in last season's Premier League. That was Klopp's last season in charge after nine years at Anfield; Arne Slot came in from Feyenoord to replace the German.
