Mourinho delights in comfort zone

FC Porto coach José Mourinho praised his side for reaching the last 16, while Lothar Matthäus was "ashamed".

'Won comfortably'
Benni McCarthy struck twice on the last night of European football at the Das Antas stadium to ensure that Porto travel to Real Madrid CF on Matchday 6 with a place in the knockout stages already assured. "We won comfortably, with few difficulties and no worries. It was a calm game," Mourinho said. "We have achieved our goal with few problems."

'Unrealistic'
Indeed, a heavy victory at the Santiago Bernabéu could even see Porto advance as group winners, but after Madrid's 2-1 success against Olympique de Marseille, the coach ruled out his side's chances. "It is unrealistic for any team to think they can go to Madrid and win 3-0," he said. "While Madrid were drawing 1-1 in Marseille, it was still possible to finish top, but Ronaldo's winner ended our chances."

'Not worth the risk'
Two players who will not be involved on Matchday 6 are Jorge Costa and Maniche, who earned late bookings to trigger suspensions against Madrid, but will be available for the next round. "It's not worth risking all our players and not being prepared for the last 16," Mourinho said. "We won't take it easy in Madrid, but our games against [CS] Marítimo before that and [SC] Beira-Mar afterwards will be more important."

'End of an era'
For Porto president Pinto Da Costa the victory was the perfect send-off to European football at the Das Antas before the move to the Estádio do Dragão. "It was very important to win our last game here," he said. "But it is a strange feeling to bring the end of an era to a place that brought so much joy."

Matthäus furious
In contrast, Partizan coach Lothar Matthäus was furious with his side's display which leaves them needing to beat Marseille at home next week to finish third and earn a place in the UEFA Cup. "I am ashamed of how some of my players played," he said. "I can't accept it. They talked a lot but they played very little. Porto won easily playing at just 50 per cent of their capacity.

UEFA Cup aim
"I want to apologise to the Partizan supporters," he added. "The only good thing about tonight was the [Marseille] result. Marseille lost so we can still qualify for the UEFA Cup. If I could have made more than three substitutions I would have. [Igor] Duljaj played well and I am happy with [Andrija] Delibašic's goal, but that is all."

'Very touched'
Veteran forward Ljubinko Drulovic made a late substitute appearance for Partizan against his old club and revealed he was moved by the reception the Porto fans gave him. "I was very touched by the crowd's applause," he said, before turning his attention to the meeting with Marseille on 9 December. "Porto and Real were too strong so now we will try to finish third by beating Marseille," he said.

'No fear'
Porto goalkeeper Vítor Baía, who twice denied Delibašic with terrific reflex saves, has already set his sights on a greater prize. "We are very happy to qualify, but we don't care who we play next," he said. "We respect everyone - but fear no one."
