Louis van Gaal acknowledged that luck was on FC Bayern München's side as CFR 1907 Cluj scored two own goals and gave a helping hand with the other in a 3-2 loss to the Group E leaders which left visiting coach Sorin Cârţu fuming.

Louis van Gaal, FC Bayern München coach
I don't think we've had much fortune this season but today we had a lot of luck. We didn't give too much away but we didn't create a lot either and therefore we were happy to get those own goals. Our midfield played very well today – the triangle of [Toni] Kroos, [Bastian] Schweinsteiger and [Andreas] Ottl moved the ball very well. It was a shame I had to take Schweinsteiger off but Dr Müller-Wohlfahrt said that he shouldn't play for more than 70 minutes.

I think it was a deserved win. We've won all our games in the Champions League and we want to improve in the Bundesliga too. We play our next game on Friday and if we beat Hamburg then we're back in contention in the league. We know it won't be easy, though, as Hamburg don't have a game this week.

Sorin Cârţu,CFR 1907 Cluj coach
It's terribly frustrating to speak after everything that happened on that pitch and you see the final result. It's logical to take some precautionary measures against a team like that, which we did, but it was totally unacceptable to concede goals in the manner that we did. I don't want to say we gave them gifts, but as I said before I'm frustrated. I wouldn't wish any coach to be in my position now.
