Midfielder Nuno Coelho has signed a five-year deal with Portuguese Liga runners-up SL Benfica.
The 23-year-old arrives in Lisbon on a free transfer after the expiration of his contract at A. Académica de Coimbra, where he has spent the previous two seasons. "It is a dream come true," he said. "Playing for Benfica was always my dream and now it has become a reality. I've been a Benfica fan since I was a child and that makes this even more special."
The Eagles have already recruited SC Braga goalkeeper Artur, and are close to confirming the signature of Danish international Daniel Wass. The 22-year-old right-sided Brøndby IF player is currently representing his country at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship on home soil.
Benfica won the 2011 Portuguese League Cup and finished 21 points adrift of FC Porto in the top flight and will therefore enter the UEFA Champions League in the third qualifying round.
