Ajax show faith in Boilesen

Denmark defender Nicolai Boilesen has extended his AFC Ajax contract by three years until 2016 as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury with the backing of Frank de Boer.

AFC Ajax defender Nicolai Boilesen has extended his contract by three years until 30 June 2016.

The 20-year-old Danish international left-back only had one season remaining on his current deal but Boilesen, signed by Ajax from Brøndby IF in January 2010, now has a long-term commitment.

He made his senior debut on 3 April 2011 against Heracles Almelo but has only totalled 14 appearances after missing most of last season with a torn hamstring, despite an abortive comeback in the UEFA Europa League loss to Manchester United FC in February.

"This is fantastic," said Boilesen as he makes his way back from injury. "This is a highlight of my recovery. Luckily I am progressing in the right direction. I train very hard twice a day. I only think positive now."

Coach Frank de Boer added: "Nicolai left a big impression on us in those few matches and many training sessions, and he still does." Eredivisie winners Ajax begin the 2012/13 UEFA Champions League in the group stage.
