Olympiacos FC have continued their summer strengthening by enlisting defender Carl Medjani from AS Monaco FC and goalkeeper Roberto on loan from Club Atlético de Madrid.

Having signed forward Javier Saviola on Wednesday, the Greek champions have agreed a three-year contract with French-born Algerian international Medjani. Capped 20 times, the centre-back made his name over five and a half seasons at AC Ajaccio before helping Monaco to Ligue 1 promotion last spring. "I hope I can help the team claim the domestic double again and be competitive in the Champions League," the 28-year-old said.

Roberto, meanwhile, arrives on a 12-month loan having spent the last two campaigns with Real Zaragoza. The 27-year-old emerged through the ranks at Atlético and recently accepted a new four-year deal in Madrid, though he is looking forward to his Greek adventure. "I am delighted to sign for Olympiacos, Greece's biggest club," he said. "I will do everything in my power to help the team achieve their goals."

Olympiacos have also let winger Djamel Abdoun leave for English side Nottingham Forest FC, with the new recruits working with the rest of the squad at a pre-season training camp in Germany. Coached by former Real Madrid CF and Spain midfielder Míchel, the Piraeus outfit start their UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
