Barça announce Eto'o unveiling

FC Barcelona have won the race to sign RCD Mallorca's Cameroonian international striker Samuel Eto'o.

Fee shared
"Samuel Eto'o will be presented as a Barcelona player at seven o'clock local time this evening," the Catalan club's website reported today. Real Madrid CF and Mallorca each owned 50 per cent of the player's registration. Madrid sold him to Mallorca in 1999 after originally acquiring him as a 16-year-old.

Cameroon triumphs
Eto'o was in the Cameroon teams that won gold at the 2000 Olympics and triumphed at the 2000 and 2002 African Cup of Nations. The 23-year-old was named his continent's Player of the Year in May. At club level, he scored twice as Mallorca beat RC Recreativo de Huelva 3-0 in the 2003 Spanish Cup final.

Barcelona spending
Barcelona have now signed seven players since finishing second in the Primera División last season. They will join the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League in the group stage.
