Toe torment for Edu

Arsenal FC midfielder Edu has suffered a broken toe and is a doubt for the visit to PSV Eindhoven.

'Bad news'
The Brazilian was replaced in the 65th minute and is a doubt for Arsenal's 24 November visit to PSV Eindhoven, the Dutch side who lead UEFA Champions League Group E by two points from the Gunners. Manager Arsène Wenger said of Edu: "He played very well but now has a broken bone on his toe. I think it's the right foot. I don't know how long he will be out. It's the bad news of the night."

Two for Lupoli
The experienced Edu's enforced departure left Arsenal playing with one of the youngest first teams they have ever fielded. "It was like we were playing with the Under-21 side," said Wenger. Dutch youngster Quincy Owusu-Abeyie levelled the score with his first senior goal before Italian Arturo Lupoli, 17, struck the first two goals of his Arsenal career.

Southampton humbled
Arsenal were one of three Premiership sides to advance to the quarter-finals last night. North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur FC won 3-0 at first division Burnley FC, Portsmouth FC prevailed 2-0 at Cardiff City FC, and Southampton FC were eliminated following a 5-2 defeat at Watford FC. The pick of tonight's concluding third-round ties sees Newcastle United FC tackle Chelsea FC.
