The UEFA Champions League is in full swing now and with matchday three fast approaching, it's time to look at the top Fantasy captain options. Here are some convincing candidates for the armband.

TUESDAY

Edin Džeko (€10.0m) vs CSKA Moskva (H)

After a slow start to the season, Roma have hit their stride now with four straight wins in all competitions, coinciding with a purple patch for their talismanic striker. The Bosnian has scored six times in his last four appearances for club and country – including the hat-trick against Plzeň on matchday two.

Cristiano Ronaldo (€12.0m) vs Manchester United (A)

Ronaldo got off to a terrible start in this season's competition with his red card against Valencia in matchday one, but the all-time UEFA Champions League top scorer returns after suspension on Tuesday and will be determined to make amends. Throw in the added motivation of a visit to his former club, and you have the recipe for a potential Ronaldo masterclass at Old Trafford.

Raheem Sterling (€9.5m) vs Shakhtar Donetsk (A)

Although Sterling has yet to get off the mark in the UEFA Champions League this season, his form elsewhere would indicate that it is only a matter of time before he starts racking up the Fantasy points in Europe. The Manchester City winger impressed over the international break with two goals against Spain, and has scored four times and provided two assists in the Premier League so far. As far as differential captain picks on Tuesday go, Sterling is right up there.

WEDNESDAY

Kylian Mbappé (€10.0m) vs Napoli (H)

In our captains article ahead of matchday two, we tipped Neymar – who duly rewarded our faith with a hat-trick against Crvena zvezda – but it is Mbappé who gets the nod from the fearsome Paris triumvirate this time around. The French youngster also netted against the Serbian outfit, and since then has added a further five goals for club and country – including four in Paris' Ligue 1 victory over Lyon prior to the international break. Visitors Napoli will provide stern opposition, but a Paris forward should never be overlooked for the captaincy.

Roberto Firmino (€9.5m) vs Crvena zvezda (H)

From one attacking trio to another, and it is Firmino who is our preferred option for Liverpool when Crvena zvezda visit Anfield. Both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mané are viable options, but the pair could have their playing time curtailed as a result of recent knocks so Firmino is certainly one to consider. The Brazilian is the only one of the three who has scored in the UEFA Champions League this season, and is likely to have opportunities to increase that tally against Group C's bottom side.

Paco Alcácer (€7.5m) vs Atlético (H)

He may not be on the radar of many as a renowned goalscorer in the UEFA Champions League, but Alcácer has been arguably the hottest striker around the major European leagues in the last month. The Dortmund striker has scored a stunning ten goals in his last six matches for club and country including two in Saturday's 4-0 win at Stuttgart. He has also registered a goal and two assists in his last three appearances against Atlético so he has form against their stout defence.
