Early knock
The 26-year-old was hurt in the second minute of the 1-0 defeat at AS Monaco FC last night, and was immediately replaced. Tests revealed a suspected torn hamstring, with medical staff claiming the Spaniard could be out of action for at least a month. That would rule him out of the visit of Olympiacos on 8 December when Liverpool must win to have a chance of reaching the first knockout round.
Striking problems
Liverpool coach Rafael Benítez could have a major selection headache on Matchday 6 as first-choice strikers Djibril Cissé and Milan Baroš are already sidelined. Last night, the Spaniard started with compatriot Luis García in a withdrawn role behind the inexperienced Neil Mellor. However, after the injury, Benítez was forced to send on full-back Josemi as substitute and push Steve Finnan into a five-man midfield.
