Chelsea heroics delight Mourinho

Chelsea FC manager José Mourinho was "ecstatic" after a 76th-minute clincher secured a quarter-final place.

José Mourinho, Chelsea manager
The game changed faces every five minutes. The second half was end-to-end. I was just about to put on Robert Huth as a centre forward but we scored from the corner so I put him on at centre-half. There was no time to breathe out there - we knew we were in a game. I want Barcelona to go on and win the Spanish Primera División. If we had lost I would have wanted them to win the UEFA Champions League but I am ecstatic that we have beaten what the press call the best team in the world.

Frank Rijkaard, Barcelona coach
We paid for individual errors but I would rather dwell on the fact that we had enough chances to win the game. Chelsea played on the counterattack and in the first half, we lost the ball in dangerous places. Maybe we should have cleared the ball long, to give ourselves a chance. At 3-0 it was total confusion, but we managed to get back and it was a good game. It was an open game and both sides had chances. But the late goal killed us off. The players saw something on the pitch after the fourth goal but we did not see anything on the bench. It is nice to say we have created a good impression but at the end of the day it is all about winning.

John Terry, Chelsea defender
What a great performance - this win is up there with the best of them. We started brilliantly and to go 3-0 up was fantastic. But they came back in it and at half-time it wasn't looking great for us. We came out fighting and got our reward tonight. But we said 'keep pressing' in a team meeting beforehand because they don't like to be pressed - in the second half we pressed again and they didn't like it. We've beaten a great team. There's still a long way to go in this competition but the main thing is we are still in it.
