Contract clause
The 28-year-old Argentinian international signed a new four-year contract with Madrid in January, although the deal included a clause stipulating that, if the winger did not appear in a certain number of games, he was free to negotiate with other teams.
Second chance
Solari came close to switching to Inter three summers ago as part of the move that took Ronaldo to Madrid, only for the Italian side to opt to receive an additional €10m instead of the player.
Five-season stay
Solari arrived at the Santiago Bernabéu from Club Atlético de Madrid in the 2000/01 season, and has since made 130 Primera División appearances, scoring ten goals. He was part of the team that lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2002, playing all 90 minutes of the final against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, and helped Madrid to Spanish titles in 2000/01 and 2002/03. However, he started only eleven league matches last term, triggering the release clause in his contract.
