Vercauteren reflects on Liverpool 'lesson'

Liverpool FC manager Rafael Benítez expressed his delight with a 3-0 win while RSC Anderlecht's Frank Vercauteren could only admire the opposition.

Rafael Benítez, Liverpool manager
I'm delighted with the result - the team played well and scored three good goals. It's important for him and for us that [Fernando] Morientes scored - and three more points in the group is good for us. But we have a dangerous game to come against Betis. They have three good strikers and I don't like to say we've qualified yet. We played the last [English Premiership] game well and that's given the players confidence. We have more alternatives in the squad now, and Morientes felt pain in his knee so we brought him off.

Frank Vercauteren, Anderlecht coach
Overall we were beaten by a better side and we got a lesson in modern football. For 30 minutes we were in the game but from the moment they scored it was different and the second goal made it almost impossible. Three goals maybe wasn't a fair reflection of the game, but we were beaten by a better team. We want to win - but sometimes we do too much. Once Liverpool scored, they didn't press too much anymore and there was no space for us to exploit. It's the quality of the Liverpool team, technically, tactically and mentally, which all make them a modern side.
