Mourinho rues 'worst performance'

José Mourinho said Chelsea FC's defeat at Real Betis Balompié was their most disappointing display this season, but his opposite number was upbeat.

A close-range 28th-minute goal by Dani proved enough to end a run of four straight defeats for Real Betis Balompié and inflict the first reverse on Chelsea FC in Group G of this season's UEFA Champions League. Betis now stand just a point behind the London club and four off group leaders Liverpool FC with two matches to play.

Lorenzo Serra Ferrer, Betis coach
The way we played tonight was very positive and I am really happy for our supporters and players. We worked hard and we deserved the result. I am delighted with our performance as we controlled the game. The players were aware that a good result could set us up to go on our way through from this competition.

José Mourinho, Chelsea manager
This was our worst performance this season, especially in the first half. Everything was bad and I cannot find a positive thing to say. We made many mistakes, but the position of the group is not bad. If we win the next two macthes we will be top of the group. The result itself is not a drama, the drama was our play. In the second half we had a better reaction, but we did not deserve a better result. The front players were too relaxed. Maybe they thought we started off from the last match when we won 4-0.

Alberto Rivera, Betis midfielder
That was the most important game I have ever experienced. We had not deserved our recent results in Europe and in our home league. We must go forward step by step now. First we must enjoy this victory and then we must think about Liverpool in our next match.
