Woodgate back on Madrid sidelines

Real Madrid CF defender Jonathan Woodgate will miss the UEFA Champions League return match against Arsenal FC after collecting a hamstring strain.

On the sidelines
The England player lasted only nine minutes of Tuesday's first knockout round tie – his third UEFA Champions League appearance of the season – before succumbing to his latest injury setback. He could be sidelined for three weeks, ruling him out of the trip to London on 8 March, and should Madrid prevail, possibly even the quarter-final first leg scheduled for 28 March.

'Starting from scratch'
The 26-year-old former Leeds United AFC and Newcastle United FC centre-back has suffered a series of muscular injuries since returning from an 18-month lay-off caused by a torn thigh muscle. As a result, he has played only nine league games, all this season, since joining Madrid in the summer of 2004. "Every time I get injured, it is like starting from scratch again. It's a horrible feeling," he said.
