Gérard Houllier was "very, very proud" of his Olympique Lyonnais team after they played some "perfect" football to defeat Real Madrid CF 2-0 - 12 months after beating the same opponents 3-0 on Matchday 1. While acknowledging that Madrid were inferior, Fabio Capello looked forward rather than back and expects a much-improved performance next time out against FC Dynamo Kyiv. uefa.com rounds up the reaction from Stade Gerland.

Gérard Houllier, Lyon coach
Tonight I was very, very proud to be the coach of Olympique Lyonnais especially during the first half which was nearly perfect. This Madrid team was better than the one of last year but we also played at an exceptional level and I think we have confirmed that we can be better than last year - my team has grown. We believe in ourselves and our quality and will continue to progress. In the second half we didn't control the ball but we controlled the game, proving how intelligently we played. The other result resembled last year's situation and the next match against [FC] Steaua Bucuresti will be very spicy.

Fabio Capello, Madrid coach
In the first we had some chances to score but Lyon were much better technically, and especially physically. In the second Lyon was less present and had less rhythm but we didn't profit from that situation. Our defence wasn't good tonight, not good enough to face Lyon. Nevertheless, I trust my team and even if we're not happy with the result or performance we must stay positive and rebuild for the next game.

Mahamadou Diarra, Madrid midfielder
We knew it was going to be a tough match. Everybody knows Olympique Lyonnais area very strong team, especially me after four years here. We made too many defensive mistakes and were not attacking enough to truly hope to win against such a well-organised team.
