Former Swiss international Antonio Esposito will miss the resumption of FC Basel's UEFA Champions League campaign due to a calf injury.
Month on the sidelines
Esposito, who has three caps for his country, had to leave Basel's training camp in the southern Turkish summer resort of Belek after picking up the injury in his right calf. The 30-year-old midfield player will undergo an operation on the injury tomorrow and as a result will be sidelined for at least a month. He will therefore miss both his side's matches against RC Deportivo La Coruña.
Former clubs
Esposito arrived at Basel after spells in France, Spain and Italy. Hellas-Verona FC, CF Extremadura and Grasshopper-Club are among his former clubs and he signed for Basel after a year in the French second division with AS Saint-Etienne.
