Camacho continues with Benfica

José Antonio Camacho will lead SL Benfica into the UEFA Champions League after agreeing a new contract.

End to speculation
Talks between Camacho and the Lisbon club's directors reached a satisfactory conclusion after weeks of speculation about the coach's future. "This is the result of the harmony that has always existed between me and the chairman, Luis Filipe Vieira," said the 48-year-old Camacho.

Back in Europe
"The club had several problems to resolve, but we talked and came to an agreement. Some people have to hurry things up, that's the problem," he added. Camacho took over at Benfica last November and steered the club to second place in Portugal's Super Liga, eleven points behind champions FC Porto. Benfica, who had not qualified for Europe since the 1999/00 campaign, will play in the third qualifying round of the Champions League.
