FK Austria Wien will take a 1-0 lead into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against FH Hafnarfjördur.

Winger Daniel Royer, making only his third competitive appearance for Austria Wien since joining this summer from Hannover 96, struck the decisive blow after 25 minutes. Nenad Bjelica's team will be assured of at least a place in the UEFA Europa League group stage should they progress to the UEFA Champions League play-offs.

It was not all plain sailing for the hosts, though, and goalkeeper Heinz Lindner had to be on his guard early on in order to deny Atli Gudnason. Bjelica's charges soon settled down, though, and were in front before the half-hour, Royer the man to benefit at the back post after good work from Alexander Grünwald.

Though Royer's strike failed to open the floodgates, the Icelandic side struggled to respond from going behind. FH stood firm in defence, but were nearly breached once more just prior to the hour mark, Tomáš Jun the man to be denied by the frame of Róbert Óskarsson's goal. The FH No1 earned his luck two minutes later, however, pulling off a fine save to deny Royer a second.
