Denmark ran out 5-0 victors but Yugoslavia will feel aggrieved that poor finishing let them down.

Both teams were looking to bounce back from defeat in their opening fixtures, and it was Denmark whose clinical touch in front of goal proved the difference. Yugoslavia matched the Danes for skill, passing and movement but were ultimately undone by profligacy, misfortune, and an early mistake by goalkeeper Tomislav Ivković.

Only eight minutes had elapsed when Ivković unwittingly pushed Frank Arnesen's low cross into his own net to hand Denmark the lead. Safet Sušić could have drawn Yugoslavia level soon after but shot badly wide when clean through. He was made to pay when Michael Laudrup cleverly lifted over Ivković for Klaus Berggreen to slide the ball in.

Yugoslavia bounced back, Danish goalkeeper Ole Qvist called into action to keep out Zvezdan Cvetković and Zlatko Vujović. Despite that brief threat of a comeback, though, the result was put beyond doubt midway through the second half, Arnesen converting from the penalty spot.

Preben Elkjær added a neat side-footed fourth before substitute John Lauridsen completed the scoring with six minutes left, curling in a delightful shot from just inside the penalty area.
