Cypriot UEFA Cup participants and Division A leaders APOEL Nicosia FC have been hit by the news that their new Greek signing Georgos Vakouftsis will be out for six months with a cruciate ligament injury.
Sensational start
Vakouftsis, a former Greece Under-21 international, started a match for his new team for the first time on Sunday in APOEL's 5-2 away win against Enosis Neon Paralimni FC, scoring a sensational four goals. But he was injured firing the last after colliding with Enosis's Slovakian goalkeeper Pavel Kamesch. It was his first start for the club after playing the final eight minutes in their previous league encounter against AEK Larnaca FC.
Back to Athens
The 23-year-old Vakouftsis started his career with Panathinaikos FC before being transferred to former Serie A club AC Fiorentina. He will now return to Athens for intensive treatment and training.
