Zhenis snap up Secu

FC Zhenis Astana have signed former Moldova defender Serghey Secu to strengthen their UEFA Cup challenge.

International honours
In leaving Russian side FC SKA-Energia Khabarovsk, the 31-year-old will become the fifth Moldovan to move to Kazakhstan this season. Secu, who made 26 appearances for his country, was once considered one of eastern Europe's brightest prospects, representing the Soviet Union at various youth levels in the late 1980s.

Czech challenge
Aside from his time in Russia, Secu also played in Poland and Ukraine. He will hope to figure in Zhenis's forthcoming UEFA Cup qualifying round tie against Czech side FK Viktoria Žižkov, to be played on 14 and 27 August.

Barsukov deal
Aside from Secu, Zhenis have also acquired FC Aktobe Lento midfield player Andrei Barsukov. Two faces have left the club though, with Turkmenistani defender Yuri Bordolimov joining Aktobe and Uzbekistani midfielder Ugulbek Asanbayev off to FC Kairat Almaty.
