Decent record
The club has opted for a change after six seasons with Malinen at the helm. The coach has led MyPa to second place in the First Division and three third-place finishes. With eight games to go in the current campaign, MyPa are fifth in the table and through to the first round proper of the UEFA Cup, where they will meet France's FC Sochaux-Montbéliard.
Top-flight experience
Malinen's replacement, Mäkelä, has no experience as a head coach but played more First Division matches - 441 - than any other player.
