French midfield player Stéphane Ziani has joined Servette FC on a one-year contract from FC Nantes Atlantique.
"We have our playmaker," Servette president Marc Roger said, confirming Ziani's arrival. For Ziani, who won the French title with RC Lens in 1998 and Nantes in 2001, the move to Servette heralds a second spell abroad after a mixed experience at RC Deportivo La Coruña in 1998/99.
Follows Moldovan's path
The 32-year-old is the second player this summer to leave Nantes for the Geneva-based club, who will play in the UEFA Cup next season, following the path of Romanian striker Viorel Moldovan. Les Canaris have also lost Mario Yepes and Sylvain Armand to Paris Saint-Germain FC and Nicolas Gillet to Lens.
Nantes, who finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season, start their UEFA Intertoto Cup campaign at the third-round stage against Irish side Cork City FC on Saturday.
