Standard test
The Danish international picked up the injury during his side’s 2-2 draw with BV Borussia Dortmund on Saturday, following a collision with Dortmund midfield player David Odonkor. The knock means the 26-year-old will be unavailable for both legs of Bochum's UEFA Cup first-round tie against R. Standard de Liège.
'The injury is a blow'
Nevertheless, coach Peter Neururer remains confident his side can prosper with or without Madsen. "Peter is an important player and the injury is a blow, but I am sure we have enough depth to compensate for his absence," he said.
Gudjonsson sidelined
The news follows confirmation that Iceland midfield player Thórdur Gudjónsson will also be out for up to four weeks after fracturing his left foot while on international duty. Bochum travel to Belgium to take on Standard this Thursday, with the return leg in Germany falling on 30 September.
