Article body
Initial reports
The talented centre-back damaged knee ligaments in training on Monday and is looking at a lay-off somewhere between ten and 12 weeks according to initial reports. That will rule him out of his side's UEFA Cup first-round tie against FC Zürich and Denmark's remaining two FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Defensive problems
Agger's injury will exacerbate the defensive problems caused by the absence of Per Nielsen and Thomas Rytter from the Brøndby defence. The national team are also experiencing a shortage of centre-halves ahead of their concluding World Cup qualifying Group 2 fixtures against Greece and Kazakhstan, with Per Krøldrup and Martin Laursen out with long-term injuries.
Sorry for Brøndby
"Daniel has been a good solution in the centre of our defence, but I am sure we will find somebody to replace him - we simply have to," said Denmark assistant coach Keld Bordinggaard. "I feel more sorry for Daniel himself and for Brøndby."
