Belgian Cup glory
The 43-year-old Brys had succeeded Franky Van der Elst at the Germinal Beerschot helm in the summer of 2003 and led the team to Belgian Cup glory against Club Brugge KV last season. However, he has paid the price of a disappointing start to the league season which has produced one win and four points from six games.
'A tough decision'
"It has been a tough decision, and one we are sad to make, but our results and low position in the league leave us with no other choice. However, the club wish to thank Marc for the last two seasons and the fantastic cup victory," chairman Jos Verhaegen stated.
Experienced campaigner
The new man, 50-year-old Daerden, takes over for the remainder of the campaign. He was sacked by RAEC Mons in April after six months in charge. A former Belgian international, whose son Koen Daerden currently plays for Belgium, he has also coached KSK Beveren, SK Lommel, R. Standard de Liège and K. Lierse SK.
