Veteran Dutch goalkeeper Henk Timmer has signed a one-year contract extension with AZ Alkmaar, committing to the Eredivisie side until 2008.
Growing reputation
The deal is reward for the 33-year-old's contribution to AZ's growing reputation, and he has yet to miss a league game since returning to the Alkmaarderhout in the summer of 2003, following unsuccessful loan spells at AFC Ajax and Feyenoord. AZ finished third in the Eredivisie last season, and Timmer also helped propel them to the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup where they were defeated by Sporting Clube de Portugal.
Opdam wait
Meanwhile, AZ defender Barry Opdam is awaiting scan results after stretching knee ligaments during today's 5-1 defeat of Willem II. The Dutch international was carried off on a stretcher 15 minutes from time.
