Laštuvka blow opens door for Shust

FC Shakhtar Donetsk could field Bohdan Shust, 19, in their UEFA Cup tie against LOSC Lille Métropole after regular No1 Jan Laštuvka underwent groin surgery.

Six weeks
Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu said of Laštuvka: "He's had an operation as he felt this was the best way to overcome what is an old problem. He'll remain my first choice when he returns after around six weeks out." The Czech custodian's injury means Ukraine Under-21 goalkeeper Shust, signed yesterday for €1m from FC Karpaty Lviv, "will have a chance to prove himself" as he competes with Dmytro Shutkov, 33, for a starting slot.

Away first
With the Ukrainian league on its winter break until 5 March, Shakhtar have no competitive matches before they take on Lille in France on 15 February. The return is scheduled for the following week in Donetsk, with the winners advancing to meet either FC Lokomotiv Moskva or Sevilla FC.
