Escudé accepts Sevilla switch

Sevilla FC have signed defender Julien Escudé from AFC Ajax for €1.8m to help fill the void created by Pablo Ruiz's knee injury and Pablo Alfaro's transfer.

First Frenchman
With Ruiz ruled out for the rest of the season on Monday, coach Juande Ramos has moved quickly to reinforce his back line, tying Escudé to a three-and-a-half year contract. The 26-year-old brother of tennis star Nicolas played for AS Cannes and Stade Rennais FC in his homeland before becoming the first Frenchman to pull on Ajax's famous red-and-white jersey in summer 2003.

Title
He won the Eredivisie title in his first term in Amsterdam and went on to play a total of 61 league matches for Ajax, whom he last represented against Feyenoord on 28 August. Sevilla will play FC Lokomotiv Moskva in the last 32 of the UEFA Cup in February.
