Heinz Peischl has been appointed coach of FC Thun and will take charge of the Swiss side for the first time in Thursday's UEFA Cup match with Hamburger SV.
St. Gallen success
The 43-year-old Austrian left his last job, with FC St. Gallen, after they suffered a 4-0 defeat at Grasshopper-Club on 6 April 2005. Peischl had steered them into fifth position in the Swiss top flight in 2003/04 and was previously in charge of FC Wil 1900.
'Great professional'
Thun president Kurt Weder believes Peischl is the perfect man to fill the void created by the yesterday's dismissal of Urs Schönenberger, saying: "Peischl is a great professional. The enthusiasm with which he is willing to guide our team has convinced us to appoint him. We are optimistic for the future." Thun have won just one of their last ten matches.
