UEFA regrets
The 30-year-old Serbian striker, who played for German side LR Ahlen last season, has penned a contract until the end of the current campaign although Svitlica's move was finalised too late for him to be eligible for the UEFA Cup group stage. "I am satisfied with the deal," he said. "The only regret is that I will not play in the UEFA Cup group stage. I would love to be involved against teams like Blackburn Rovers [FC] or [FC] Basel [1893]."
Household name
Svitlica is well-known to football fans in Poland having had a two-and-a-half year spell with Wisła's arch-rivals Legia Warszawa, where he won a Polish title and the League Cup. Furthermore, the one-time FK Partizan prospect is the only foreigner to have topped the Ekstraklasa scoring charts, totalling 24 goals during the 2002/03 season. Wisła coach Dragomir Okuka was pleased with the purchase of his compatriot, saying: "We needed a striker like him. I think his arrival will be hugely beneficial to the club."
