Petter Myhre has resigned as coach of Vålerenga IF after the UEFA Cup contenders crashed out of the Norwegian Cup.
'Nothing left to give'
Myhre has quit following the Oslo club's humiliating defeat by second division Nybergsund IL on Thursday. "I felt I had nothing left to give to the job," he said. "I hope the players can lift themselves now." The coach had taken charge of Vålerenga last summer and led the team to third place in Norway's top flight in 2006. This season they are on course to reach the UEFA Cup second qualifying round after a 1-0 first-leg win against FC Flora in Estonia last weekend. Myhre's assistant Harald Aabrekk has been named caretaker coach. Vålerenga lie eleventh in the 14-club Tippeligaen after 14 matches.
