Hapoel sign striker Fábio Júnior

Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC have acquired the well-travelled former AS Roma and Brazilian international forward Fábio Júnior on a two-year deal from VfL Bochum 1848.

Free transfer
The Israeli UEFA Cup participants have recruited the 29-year-old on a free transfer from the Bundesliga club, where he scored three goals in 31 games during the last two seasons. Hapoel coach Guy Luzon said of his new signing: "He didn't get to play in the Bundesliga because of his nice eyes."

Much travelled
Fábio Júnior came to prominence at Cruzeiro EC, striking 18 times in 32 matches to earn a transfer to AS Roma in 1998. The Italian side later loaned him to Cruzeiro and SE Palmeiras in Brazil as well as Portugal's Vitória SC. The striker then moved permanently to Clube Atlético Mineiro, Japanese outfit Kashima Antlers and Al Wahda of the United Arab Emirates. His new team Hapoel have been drawn against NK Široki Brijeg from Bosnia-Herzegovina in the UEFA Cup second qualifying round.
