The 25-year-old has undergone knee surgery which could also rule him out of the Red Devils' six remaining UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifiers. Fellow midfielder Gertjan De Mets, 20, will join him on the sidelines for around three months having torn cruciate knee ligaments and broken a shinbone in the 3-1 Belgian Super Cup loss to RSC Anderlecht on 28 July. New recruit Stepán Kucera, 23, broke an eye socket in the same match but is expected to return next week with the aid of a protective mask. The Belgian Cup holders enter the UEFA Cup in the first round.
