Eight-week lay-off for Ivanschitz

Panathinaikos FC's Austrian international playmaker Andreas Ivanschitz is likely to be out for eight weeks after he partially tore the ligaments in his right knee.

Panathinaikos FC's Austrian international playmaker Andreas Ivanschitz is likely to be out for eight weeks after partially tearing ligaments in his right knee.

'Bent inwards'
Ivanschitz suffered the injury during the Greek club's 2-0 friendly win against FC Lausanne-Sport on Tuesday and tests today revealed that the Austria captain has damaged ligaments in his right knee. "It was a normal challenge but I felt my knee being bent inwards," said the 23-year-old. "I immediately knew that something bad had happened and was substituted right away."

UEFA Cup blow
The former FC Salzburg and SK Rapid Wien midfielder, who has made 26 Greek Super League appearances, will miss Panathinaikos's opening league matches as well as the start of their UEFA Cup campaign, beginning in the first round on 20 September. Panathinaikos have also signed Nigeria central defender Joseph Enakarhire on a season's loan from FC Dinamo Moskva, securing the option of a permanent deal for the 24-year-old.
