Lens bring in striker Pieroni

French club RC Lens have signed FC Nantes Atlantique's Belgian striker Luigi Peroni on loan for the rest of the season with Marek Heinz replacing him at the Ligue 2 side.

UEFA Cup hopefuls RC Lens have taken FC Nantes Atlantique striker Luigi Pieroni on loan for the rest of the season.

Reunited with Roux
The 26-year-old Pieroni will be reunited with coach Guy Roux, the man who brought the Belgian international to France from R. Excelsior Mouscron in May 2004 when in charge at AJ Auxerre. "We needed an experienced striker after Daniel Cousin left for Rangers FC," said Roux. Pieroni scored 21 league goals in 80 games for Auxerre before moving to Nantes in January 2007. He netted three times in his first two appearances there, but then failed to hit the target in his next 14 games as the Canaris suffered relegation.

Young Boys test
While Pieroni is looking forward to the prospect of UEFA Cup football - Lens face BSC Young Boys in the second leg of their second qualifying round tie next week following a 1-1 away draw - former club Nantes have reacted to his departure by signing AS Saint-Etienne's Czech Republic forward Marek Heinz. Nantes have agreed a two-year deal with Heinz, with the option of a further year.
