Bayer 04 Leverkusen midfielder Pirmin Schwegler faces a race against time to be fit for the start of their UEFA Cup campaign on 20 September after undergoing meniscus surgery.
Four weeks out
The 20-year-old looks likely to be out for a month, which would make him a doubt for the opening leg of their first round tie. Leverkusen coach Michael Skibbe said of the Swiss player: "He will be sidelined for about four weeks." However, there is better news in midfield with German international Paul Freier, 28, back from an achilles injury and expected to be available for Saturday's Bundesliga match against Karlsruher SC.
