FC Bayern München have entered the winter transfer market to sign Brazilian Under-20 international Breno from São Paulo FC.
Bayern 'delight'
The Bundesliga leaders have landed the defender for a fee thought to be in the region of €12m, with Breno due to sign a four-and-a-half year contract from 1 January 2008. "We are delighted to have secured the signature of such a young talent as Breno," said the head of Bayern's board, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
Title winner
The 18-year-old has just completed a dream first season in the professional ranks at São Paulo, winning the Brazilian title with five games to spare. Breno, full name Breno Vinicius Borges, made 30 league appearances in a campaign in which the champions conceded only 19 goals.
Training schedule
Voted the discovery of 2007 by his country's journalists, Breno will link up with the Bayern squad for a midwinter training camp from 13 to 19 January. His new club will expect to book their place in the UEFA Cup's spring programme when they conclude their Group F fixtures at home to Aris Thessaloniki FC next Wednesday.
