CSKA give Carvalho leave of absence

Brazil midfielder Daniel Carvalho has signed a new contract with PFC CSKA Moskva which will run until 2010, but will spend the next six months on loan at SC Internacional.

Sudden impact
Carvalho came through the ranks at Porto Alegre-based Internacional before joining CSKA in the winter of 2004. He made an instant impression in Russia by scoring the winning goal in the Russian Super Cup in his first competitive appearance, only for a knee ligament injury to keep him out of action for almost the entire year. The 25-year-old, who has been capped three times for Brazil, recovered in time to play a major part in CSKA's UEFA Cup triumph in 2005, but his appearances have since been greatly restricted by injury and health issues.

'Not goodbye'
"I have not had any match practice for a long time, but I hope to play regularly for Internacional," said Carvalho who has made just four substitute appearances in the Premier-Liga this term. "I will also be with my family and my little son. I would like to thank the president, the coaching staff and the fans of CSKA and to apologise for not being able to fulfil their expectations this year. I am going to Brazil, but I am not saying goodbye to Russia. I hope to be back with my CSKA colleagues in January." CSKA, who are seventh in the Premier-Liga, will compete in the UEFA Cup this season, joining the competition in the first round.
