BSC Young Boys have dismissed coach Martin Andermatt just three games into the Swiss Super League season following the Berne side's slow start to the campaign.
Runners-up
Young Boys pushed FC Basel 1893 to the final game in the title race last term before being forced to settle for the runners-up spot, but a return of one point from three matches has cost Andermatt his job this time round. Assistant coach Erminio Piserchia takes charge on an interim basis as Young Boys look to reverse the slide. The sacking comes as a surprise given the club's decision to extend Andermatt's contract by a year last January.
Early defeats
Young Boys drew 0-0 with FC Vaduz on Sunday, having opened the season with a pair of defeats by Basel and FC Sion. They are seventh in the ten-team table and the two teams directly below have played fewer games. "With performances like that we will not achieve our goals this term," club president Thomas Grimm said after the Vaduz match. Andermatt had succeeded Gernot Rohr at the helm in October 2006 after three years leading Liechtenstein's national side. Young Boys kick off their UEFA Cup campaign in the second qualifying round.
