Having missed out on Sébastien Puygrenier, AS Saint-Etienne moved quickly to sign the AS Monaco FC defender Sylvain Monsoreau on a four-year contract.

Title winner
Having been pipped to the signing of AS Nancy-Lorraine centre-back Sébastien Puygrenier by FC Zenit St. Petersburg, Les Verts moved quickly to secure a deal for the 27-year-old. A graduate of the FC Sochaux-Montbéliard academy, he played 110 league matches for the club before moving on to Olympique Lyonnais where he was a title winner in 2005/06. After one season he headed south to Monaco where he scored twice in 56 Ligue 1 outings over two seasons. Monsoreau is St-Etienne's sixth summer signing as they build for the UEFA Cup, a competition they enter in the first round.
