Wright-Phillips seals City return

"I just can't wait to get started again," declared Shaun Wright-Phillips after ending his Chelsea FC spell to rejoin former club Manchester City FC on a four-year deal.

'I'm delighted'
The 26-year-old returns to the City Of Manchester Stadium in a four-year-deal after failing to win a regular starting place at Stamford Bridge, where he nonetheless collected a Premier League winners' medal in 2006. "Obviously I'm delighted to come back to City and I just can't wait to get started again," said Wright-Phillips, who was a popular figure at City before his €30.5m move to west London.

Hughes joy
City manager Mark Hughes was also keen to express his pleasure after completing the transfer. "I've always admired him and he's certainly been a target of mine since I came to the club," said Hughes. "To actually secure the deal and bring Shaun back home is a fantastic coup for us and I'm sure the supporters will be just as excited as we are to have him back at Manchester City."

Previous spell
Wright-Phillips made his City debut in the 1999/00 campaign, and went on to make 153 league appearances, scoring 26 times. In contrast, he made just 43 starts for Chelsea and saw his England prospects fade as a result. He will be an interested spectator this evening, when City look to overturn a 1-0 first-leg defeat by FC Midtjylland in Denmark to book a place in the UEFA Cup.
